Unforgettable Natalie Cole passed away at 65, leaving behind a legacy of mesmerising songs
Natalie Cole, acclaimed singer and daughter of legendary singer Nat King Cole passed away in Los Angeles, USA on 31st December, 2015 at the age of 65 from congestive heart failure, leaving behind a rich legacy of melodious and mesmerising songs.

Natalie, who was born in Los Angeles to Nat and his wife Maria Hawkins Ellington on February 6, 1950, made her professional singing debut with her father in 1961, performing I'm With You at the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles. Nat King Cole died in 1965 of lung cancer, which left Natalie devastated.

Natalie shot to fame with her 1975 album Inseperable and remained popular in the 80s and early 90s. But despite commercial success she too had to go through periods of illnesses and drug abuse, but was resilient enough to make strong comebacks.

Life was never easy for Natalie by living under the shadow of her famous father Nat King Cole and she initially resisted being labeled as only his daughter. The peak of her career came in 1991 with her album Unforgettable.

Unforgettable, the most popular single of the album is a father-daughter duet song recorded with the vocals of her late father Nat King Cole, who had recorded the original song in 1951. And people have still not stopped listening to it. The thoughtful lyrics and piercing melody of the song is still soothing to the ears. Unforgettable is an ode to the bond between two greats, father and daughter, who forever changed music.

Unforgettable the single won Natalie a Grammy for record of the year, while the album won the album of the year. It sold 7 million copies in the US alone.

In 2009 she came out with one of the biggest hit album of her career, Still Unforgettable which won her the last of her nine Grammy Awards. As a tribute to the legendary singer Natalie Cole, I share with you a video clip of her performance of Unforgettable at the Grammy Awards.
