Roger Federer and Stan Wawrinka enter US Open semifinals
It is hard to believe that Roger Federer at age 34 is playing the best tennis of his life and winning every game at the US Open with utmost ease. He has made it into his 10th semifinal at Flushing Meadows, and now will have to beat his fellow countryman, Stan Wawrinka in the semis to proceed to the final.

On Wednesday night, both Federer and Wawrinka won their quarterfinal matches easily. It took merely 1 ½ hours for the No 2 seeded Federer to beat 12th seeded Richard Gasquet of France 6-3, 6-3, 6-1.

"It's nice to play this way," Federer said. "And, maybe at my age, to run through five opponents the way I have done here at the U.S. Open, I don't consider that normal, to be quite honest, even though I expect it in some ways."

Federer will now meet Wawrinka, his swiss countryman in the semis on Friday. The 5th seeded Wawrinka beat Kevin Anderson, 6-4, 6-4, 6-0 to make it to the semifinal of the US Open.

Federer said, "For Switzerland it's huge that we have two guys in the semis of the U.S. Open, a huge tournament, biggest arena in the world. I think we are both very much pumped up that that's the case. Only better scenario would have been in the finals, but this is very, very good."

Although Federer and Wawrinka have played against each other 19 times, but never in a semifinal of a major tournament. Federer has a clear advantage as he has won 16 of the 19 games played between the two. But, Wawrinka does not come across as an easy opponent, as he had beaten Federer in their last encounter in the French Open quarterfinal this year. Wawrinka went on the win the title.

Both of them have been close friends for many years and teammates of the Davis Cup team. The other semifinal will take place between Novak Djokovic and Marin Cilic.
