Renuka Yadav: Once a milk seller, now part of women's hockey team for Rio Olympics
On Tuesday, Hockey India announced the 16-member women's hockey squad for the upcoming Rio Olympics. And this announcement changed the life of Renuka Yadav, who used to be a milk seller from Chhattisgarh, as she was named in the team. Presently, she is working as a train ticket examiner with Central Railways in Mumbai.
Renuka, who hails from a lower middle-class family, used to go door-to-door to sell milk and her parents work as domestic helps.

Renuka, who is very happy with this announcement, said, "It was not an easy journey. I belong to a lower middle-class family. I used to sell milk while my parents did household work like dusting and cleaning in others home to earn a livelihood."

Renuka is the first woman Olympian from Chhattisgarh. Earlier she played as midfielder in the national hockey team for some time.

Sharing her happiness she also said, "I have been playing hockey since childhood. Bushan Sao, my first mentor, encouraged me to take the game. My journey began there and today I am here in Indian team for Rio."

Bushan Sao, who is a school-level hockey coach in Rajnandgaon, said, "She was in class 7 when she started playing hockey. I gifted her the first hockey stick. It's her hard work that earned her this position today. In the school team, we used to practice twice in a day but only Renuka practiced even during extra time. She was always very eager to learn", as reported by ToI.
