Head to Kadambam for fun and food
Kadambam located on the Bangalore-Mysore highway offers the mouth watering Iyengar puliyogare delicacy for reasonable rates making it the perfect get away for food lovers and fun seekers alike.
A SLANTING round face may not seem attractive but when you see the trademark on his forehead, and the little tuft of hair on his shiny bald head, next to a banana leaf one's curiosity leaves you curious. This chubby faced mama (uncle)on the board introduces you to the cuisine of the Iyengar community of South India.

Iyengars follow the Visishtadvaita philosophy propounded by Sri Ramanujacharya. They are present in good numbers in Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh. They speak Tamil, Kannada and Telugu.

Situated on the Bangalore-Mysore highway, Kadambam, about 60 kms off Bangalore, is an authentic Iyengar cuisine restaurant, which is a refreshing and fulfilling stop for all those travelling in that route. Though the ambience is not all that fancy, the view outside and the feel of the restaurant is inviting.

Located in the toy town of Channapatna, this restaurant is not just for tourists but also a weekend destination for all youngsters who want to eat “out” at some interesting place. Kadambam when translated literally means “combination” serves you a variety of vegetarian dishes bringing that mesmerised look without burning a hole in your wallet.

Kadambam serves the famous Iyengar puliyogare which is a tangy blend of rice and tamarind with a whole lot of spices tossed in. Topped with roasted peanuts, this delicacy tastes fabulous when dipped in fresh curd.

Madhura Puranik, a student who is a regular visitor to Kadambam with friends says “We love driving down to Kadambam every other weekend as we get to travel a little, spend time away from the city and get to eat amazing, filling food at a very reasonable price. The experience of eating healthy at Kadambam is what brings us here often”.

Ven Pongal/Khara pongal and Sakkar pongal, both rice items are prepared regularly and are always in demand. Piping hot soft rice and green gram dal sprinkled with pepper and cashew makes the Khara pongal just perfect for the spicy tongue and tastes even better when combined with the mouth watering tamarind gojju.

The Sakkar pongal on the contrary is a blend of rice, dal and jaggery, very similar to that of Khara pongal with the main difference being that, Khara Pongal is spicy and this is sweet. All the sweet toothed foodies will love this preparation as it pampers them with ghee, cashews and rich raisins.

These three being their top preparations, they also serve a plethora of other lip smacking dishes like sajjappa, kesari bath and more apart from the usual idli, sambhar, vada and dosa. These preparations are no different from that of other restaurants in Karnataka. They are meant for those who do not want to steer away from their breakfast routine but still want to eat here. For all those who are used to their sandwich meals, Kadambam too offers them club sandwiches and fresh juices.

So, for a unique, relaxed and a very reasonable meal, hop on your bikes and zoom off 60 kilometres from Bangalore on the smooth highway to Mysore to tingle your taste buds at Kadambam!
